The original Umbrella Shop opened in Vancouver in 1935. The story of this Jewish immigrant family’s travels that saw them move into a condemned Vancouver building as their start up location and home is enough to make you want to cheer.

If you want an umbrella from of the worlds best and from Canada’s last and only umbrella makers; this is the place. It has been kept in the family for generations and there are probably many stories that saw them through the decades with changing times and family dynamics. They managed to survive the relocations and reincarnations (and family BBq’s) and are continuing the tradition of producing a quality product that lasts. Any umbrella bought at the Umbrella Shop is guaranteed and can usually be repaired for a $5 service charge for as long as you have it. Sewing repairs are free. Wait a minute. What about the landfills? Aren’t we supposed to throw away our battered umbrella that has crumbled and turned inside out in an embarrassing burst of bad wind? Oh these don’t do that? How novel. To keep something and have it last a lifetime. Don’t you wish all products where made by family generations that honored this “old school” philosophy?
